Celebrating 25 years of Grand Union
Grand Union celebrates its 25th anniversary year during 2008-2009. The Grand Union Orchestra and various versions of the Band are generally available all year round, but there will special programmes to commemorate this also.
From the beginning of May until early September, we are offering special programmes featuring Chinese musicians, appearing in several festivals around the UK, including a major presentation, Now Comes the Dragon’s Hour, at the Spitalfields Festival in June.
Two versions of the Band are particularly popular during the summer, for open air events – Spirit of Carnival, featuring our Caribbean, Latin-American and African musicians, and the Bangla Band, featuring our Indian and Bangladeshi performers.
Grand Union Youth Orchestra
Also during the summer are numerous performances by the Grand Union Youth Orchestra of East London and the Urban Street Band, featuring large numbers of highly talented young musicians.
If Paradise... CD release
In September we are releasing a new CD, If Paradise…, and the Grand Union Orchestra will be touring the UK throughout the autumn to coincide with its release.
On Liberation Street
Also available in the autumn and early 2009 is our latest large-scale spectacular On Liberation Street, featuring dozens of local performers.
